Sunset illumines a spectacular skyscape in this dramatic 220-degree view of Cable Beach. The colours are as rich as royalty, the sense of emptiness profound. To the left and right, long lines of tyre marks bear witness to the beach's most recent guests. Four-wheel drives (and camels) are a common feature of this extensive beach. Though some are trying to ban vehicles, others realise the blessing of modern transport - that they allow many to access nature who might otherwise miss out. Soon a giant tide (up to ten metres high here) will erase all signs of the visitors' coming. Nature is often stronger and more resilient than we think.
